Catherine Baker

Catherine Baker is Reader in 20th-century History at the University of Hull in Great Britain. Her research on popular culture, historical narratives and collective identities since the break-up of Yugoslavia aims to set the post-Yugoslav region and its imaginations of “Europe” and “the Balkans” in a transnational context, directing attention at the global politics of race. She is the author of Race and the Yugoslav Region: Post-Socialist, Post-Conflict, Postcolonial? (2018), and will be editing the forthcoming Routledge Handbook of Popular Music and Politics in the Balkans.
